  1. SCIENCE FICTION REVIEW 31a - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears on the cover of SFR 31, edited and published by Richard Geis.

This drawing is the first one that I did for Geis back in the early 70s, and at that time I was still working for a living in the reseach and development department at "Simmonds Precision Products" in Vermont. In my spare time at home, I was learning to draw and paint and contributing to fanzines and small press publishers.

At that time I was already getting paid from small press publishers, but not as yet from fanzine publishers. I continued to contribute to fanzines for the exposure it gave me; I was very pleased to see my artwork on the cover of this fanzine because I knew that many professional people, authors and editors, subscribed to it and saw my cover art before they started to read the magazine. I was hoping that sooner or later one or more of the pro editors would write or phone and offer me some assignments. And happily, in a very short time, they did!
